Delays and cancellations to cargo movements as a result of heavy snowfall and severe weather conditions continue to impact the UK’s transport network.
“Due to weather conditions and high volumes of freight traffic at Eurotunnel, a queuing system for freight vehicles only is in progress on the M20,” said Port of Dover.
“All traffic is free flowing into the port and services from the Eastern Docks with P&O Ferries and SeaFrance to Calais, and DFDS Seaways to Dunkerque are currently running to schedule with space available,” it said.
Five of BAA’s six airports are open this morning (Heathrow, Stansted, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh). Southampton airport is currently closed. Gatwick has re-opened this morning.
Almost all flights to and from the five BAA airports are operating. Some airlines are announcing delays and cancellations.
An additional seven flights at Heathrow are being operated by airlines usually based at Gatwick, as operations there will take some time to get back to normal.
The weather forecast for the Stansted area shows no major snow expected today.
Southampton Airport will not be operating flights before 1pm today at the earliest, due to icy conditions on the airfield.
Many thanks to the planners of Chambers & Cook on both the International and UK traffic departments who unselfishly worked through the night to keep our trucks on the road. A big thankyou to all the drivers too who battled against some pretty horrendous weather conditions to ensure our customers were not let down.
